Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and accountable to the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team, this role drives the development and implementation of the Corporate Affairs and Government Policy strategic plan. Accountable for ensuring initiatives, activities, processes drive towards the accomplishment of the strategic plan. Additionally, this role will be responsible for partnering with BIA in developing metrics to track progress, inform and recommend course correction as necessary. This resource will be accountable for efforts to improve innovation, speed, integration and efficiency across the Corporate Affairs organization as measured through improved MyVoice survey results in these respective areas. The role will work across the enterprise and the CA/GP function to help break down organizational and technical barriers that impede progress.
The role requires an individual with a high level of comfort interacting, building trust with and persuading key stakeholders both inside and outside Corporate Affairs. This individual will be an effective manager of matrix teams and capable in the areas of project management and process improvement and must possess the ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
Finally, this individual is a passionate practitioner with a passion to win on behalf of Bristol-Myers Squibb and his/her team. The position is based in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Responsibilities
Ensure the further development and effective implementation of the Corporate Affairs strategy
Ensure that strategies are clearly understood by all stakeholders and that the organization is achieving its strategic goals at the optimum pace
Create and execute an efficient ongoing department operational framework for a global function that is timely, efficient and promotes collaboration, sharing of information, best practice adoption, follow up.
Accountability for ongoing process improvement and reduction of inefficient processes and unnecessary work across the organization; review and streamline repeatable processes in Corporate Affairs to drive efficiency and remove cost.
Oversee annual planning process to ensure alignment with key business partners and across Corporate Affairs. Implement regular process for sharing plans across the function and more broadly.
Lead and manage value capture synergy targets and submissions, headcount, budget process that includes robust monthly reporting and measurement for all department members.
Lead and manage operational calendars to support shared visibility to key events, speaking engagements, business milestones, etc. Develop resource requirements for each event to ensure efficient allocation of human and financial resources.
Accountable for evaluating, building, and managing the CA capabilities for the overall CA & GP teams, which includes knowledge management and reporting, collaboration tools, shared digital storage and shared drive spaces. Determine feasibility of a new, searchable library file to facilitate effective global shared practices across the function.
Partners with EVP, Corporate Affairs on establishing a team effectiveness approach in alignment with the BMSLT team effective directive.
Responsible for tools and content to ensure understanding and engagement across the organization with Corporate Affairs key processes. Keeps a walking deck of key processes (corporate branding, issues management, media policy, etc) for educating stakeholders. Lead and manage the Corporate Affairs SharePoint sites that face internally (to the team) and externally to the BMS employee population to drive productivity.
Centralized ownership and accountability for all Corporate Affairs scorecard and results reporting, including external benchmarking and measurement of BMS corporate reputation and content performance making recommendations for improvement as appropriate.
Lead and manage planning and logistics of internal and external l Global Corporate Affairs engagements (ex: JP Morgan Chase, global policy meetings, etc).
Monitor the external landscape to stay abreast of industry and functional macro trends to inform and educate stakeholders, and incorporate into Corporate Affairs strategic plan and processes
Responsible for leadership of global Project Management Office (PMO) for the function, overseeing 2 FTE.
Accountable for agenda development and facilitation of effective Corporate Affairs Leadership Team meetings and interactions. Serves as active participant on the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team.
Develop and track success measures and business scorecard for Corporate Affairs and Global Policy, overseeing 2 FTE. Use metrics to build guidance for Full CA and Policy teams, sharing learnings, best practices and innovation across the entire department.
Develop strategy for global Corporate Affairs external Agency management, a $30 million annual investment.
Responsible for developing strategic approach and leading our global consultant network, comprised of 100 individuals who support key areas or our business including commercial, diversity, quality and HR.
Oversee curation of strategic communications internal and external content for use by global affiliates, overseeing 2 FTE.
Requirements
The successful candidate will be a highly organized, self-motivated leader with a roll-up- the-sleeves mentality and strong sense of urgency. They should possess a proven track record of setting, driving and delivering on objectives and projects and have demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence others with strong familiarity of the healthcare industry as well as a corporate affairs function.
This individual should also have an excellent understanding of the digital space, including SharePoint, the Cloud, One Drive, Excel, and other contemporary tools. Project Management, Six Sigma, Lean, or Operational Excellence certifications are also desirable.
Additional Requirements include:
Bachelor's degree required.
10 years pharmaceutical experience with demonstrated experience in strategy and operations; corporate affairs experience preferred
Project management and change management experience with the ability to develop clear action plans and execute.
Strong financial, strategic planning and business planning skills
Proven track record of a strong ability to proactively identify resolutions to business issues and creating new and innovative ways of doing things, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing environment.
Exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively within the department and across the business to drive and scale communications strategies across the enterprise.
Ability to influence and advise senior leadership in both communications and business settings. Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry.
Strong management and team leadership skills, including willingness to mentor others.
Superior written and interpersonal communications skills. Strong presentation and facilitation skills; ability to engage with and persuade a wide variety of audiences.
Able to quickly learn and to operate within a complex, fast-paced and changing environment.
