The retailer said the layoffs impact about 6 percent of its headquarters workforce, who will get a severance package and are eligible for unemployment insurance and outplacement assistance services.

Shopko, which employs 1,700 in Brown County, said the “cost reduction action” was in response to the recession and a decrease in sales.

Retail locations are not effected by the layoffs, according to the company.

Shopko, headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, employs over 16,000 people in 13 states, in more than 136 stores, generating annual sales exceeding $ 2.2 billion.
