GlaxoSmithKline, a British drug making company, laid off 22 chemists in an attempt to save billions on annual costs last week.
GSK’s spokeswoman Melinda Stubbee confirmed the layoffs yesterday.
Most of the positions that were eliminated were part of a group assigned to come up with a new cancer-fighting drug.
The company announced its plan to save $1.4 billion in the fourth quarter last year. Several layoffs have taken place at the Research Triangle Park Labs since the announcement of the three-year restructuring plan. GSK has laid off over a 1,000 workers in both Puerto Rico and the US.
