Description POSITION SUMMARY: Clinical Pharmacist position specializing in Nutrition Support. This position handles all aspects of total parenteral nutrition. Patient care is focused on adult inpatients. Clinical Pharmacist will work closely with physicians, mid-level providers, clinical dietitians, and nursing to ensure parenteral feeding regimens follow clinical literature, current best practices and regulatory standards. Clinical Pharmacist will provide patient and staff education, implement medication safety processes and provide oversight for all medication management policies and procedures including sterile compounding of parenteral nutrition. To maintain clinical and operational skills, Clinical Pharmacist will periodically process medication orders and perform clinical services on an inpatient unit, in addition to precepting Pharmacy students and Pharmacy residents. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy. Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required. Two (2) years of previous hospital pharmacy experience, or completion of a Pharmacy residency required. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Licensure by New Mexico Board of Pharmacy is required, continuous education to maintain licensure and certification(s) is required. BLS certification issued by American Heart Association, or must obtain within four weeks of hire. Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) or Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist (BCNSP) or Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacist (BCCCP) or must obtain within one year of hire. Completion of ASHP/ASPEN Nutrition Support Certificate within three months of hire. ASHP residency preceptor status as soon as eligible. SKILLS: Effective verbal and written communication skills Advanced mathematical skills required Keyboarding skills are preferred (must be able to develop competence using hospital pharmacy software) Word processing skills are preferred Must have the ability to work with medical staff, nursing staff and other healthcare employees. Ability to handle high volume patient load Be team oriented Possess leadership qualities Interest in direct patient care, quality improvement, and medication safety. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of previous hospital pharmacist experience, or completion of pharmacy residency. NATURE OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Director, Pharmacy ENVIRONMENT: - Bloodborne pathogen B (Occasional exposure in daily duties. Little expected risk, but may be exposed unexpectedly to potentially infectious materials. Exposure may be superficial and limited to a small amount of fluid.) Close quarters in a busy environment. Possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases. Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and allergenic drug products. Extended exposure to video display terminals. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work at a rapid pace throughout entire shift, while under demanding workloads and stressful situations. Hearing sufficient to use telephones and pagers and vision sufficient to read physician orders, requisitions and reports. Hand to eye coordination sufficient for aseptic technique.
