:,ActualValueFromSolar:null},{QuestionName:Job Summary,AnswerValue:JOB OVERVIEW u003cbr/u003eThe goal of the UCSF Biobank is to collect, process, and distribute biospecimens for research. The Biobank functions as a common biorepository for human biospecimens derived from patients who have consented to participate in clinical trials and research studies and are undergoing cancer treatments, surgeries and other medical procedures. The UCSF Biobank is supported by a team of Staff Research Associates and a Pathologists Assistant that have advanced dissection skills and advanced pathology, anatomy and medical knowledge that enables them to procure biospecimens for research during clinical procedures. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe Tissue Acquisition Research Associate II (SRA II) works independently with limited direct supervision in preparing clinical specimens for evaluation and therefore must understand tumor staging criteria (margins, tumor size, tumor location relative to anatomic structures) as to not impact the formal Clinical Pathology evaluation of the specimen. The SRA II will orient, weigh, ink, measure and perform initial dissection of surgical specimens that will be further evaluated by a Medical Center PA, Pathology Resident and Pathologist for diagnostic and treatment purposes. u003cbr/u003e u003cbr/u003eThe SRA II serves as the interface between the Clinical teams (Physicians and Nurses) treating patients and the Research teams requesting biospecimens. The SRA II attends and understands the clinical procedures that are being performed (autopsy, surgical resection, transplant, image guided biopsy, punch biopsies, incision, fine needle aspiration, etc.) and will be able to translate the requirements of the research study (tissue types, number of passes, type of biopsy, quantity of tissue, diagnostic requirements, molecular testing needs) in terms relevant to and within scope of the clinical procedure. The SRA II works in clinical spaces and with clinical specimens.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe SRA II must possess a high level of independence, sound decision making and complex dissection skills. A typical surgical collection event is briefly described: To collect tissue for research from a pancreas resection (Whipple procedure), the SRA II must retrieve the organ from the operating theater. He or she will orient the specimen, ink the proximal, distal, pancreatic neck, retroperitoneal, vascular groove, posterior, anterior and bile duct margins, trim and cassette the margins for pathology evaluation, using clinical imaging reports and palpation, locate and incise tumor, grossly identify tumorous tissue versus normal tissue and determine if there is sufficient material to collect for research without impacting clinical evaluation. After collecting tissue, the SRA II documents their findings and steps taken to perform initial dissection, and tissue collected and communicates this information to the clinical pathology team that will continue the dissection and evaluation of the specimen for diagnostic purposes. Tissue collected for research is then banked or passed off to research teams for further processing and analysis. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIn addition to complex dissection and collection procedures, the SRA II performs a variety of assigned standard laboratory procedures related to collection, transporting and processing of human biospecimens for research including but not limited to tissue, blood and urine. Such procedures include “back bench” FNA, needle core biopsies, DNA u0026 RNA extraction, PBMC isolation, cell counting and blood fractionation to harvest plasma and serum. The SRA II is responsible for entering collection, processing and distribution annotations in the Biobank electronic database. The SRA II will review diagnostic reports and translate the reports into terms compatible with the biobank database (e.g. CAP synoptic reporting). u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eSurgical procedures and in-patient clinical trials take place 24 hours per day 7 days per week. The SRA II is required to provide on-call and extended hours coverage on a rotating schedule with other SRA and PA team members. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eWork location: Rotates between Tissue Core facilities at Mission Bay, Mt. Zion and Parnassus campus.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eHELEN DILLER FAMILY COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTERu003cbr/u003eThe UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC), or Cancer Center, combines basic science, clinical research, epidemiology / cancer control and patient care from throughout the University of California, San Francisco system.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eABOUT UCSF u003cbr/u003eThe University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
