Pharmacy Assistant Jobs description
A pharmacy assistant is responsible for assisting the pharmacists and pharmacy manager with the daily operations of the pharmacy department. A pharmacy assistant maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs and packages and labels prescription medications. A pharmacy assistant enters patients’ information and doctors’ prescriptions in computer systems. A pharmacy assistant maintains prescription and inventory record keeping systems and places and receives orders for stocks to maintain inventories. A pharmacy assistant mixes and dispenses prescribed medicines and pharmaceutical preparations in the absence of or under the supervision of a pharmacist. A pharmacy assistant assists a senior pharmacist in developing and maintaining quality assurance programs in relation to the distribution of pharmaceuticals. A pharmacy assistant prepares labels and medical aid copies and also gives notifications to patients when prescriptions are due for a refill. A pharmacy assistant carries out routine stock checking, orders replacement stock, prices and arranges stock, checks stock for expired and/or damaged products, and ensures that all medicines are stored correctly.A pharmacy assistant job requires a BS degree in pharmacy and a minimum of three years of experience in a relevant field. A pharmacy assistant should have good interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, staff, and management. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. Basic computer skills are also a must.
