Pharmacist Jobs
A pharmacist specializes in dispensing drugs prescribed by physicians and providing information to patients about their side effects and use. A pharmacist understands both the composition of medicines and the laws that regulate their manufacture and sale. A pharmacist orders and stores medicines, keeping them safe, pure, and effective. A pharmacist provides information about prescribed drugs and helps patients understand the instructions their doctors or other health practitioners have provided. A pharmacist provides specialized services to help patients with conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure. A pharmacist may specialize in specific drug therapy areas, such as intravenous nutrition support, oncology (cancer), nuclear pharmacy (used for chemotherapy), geriatric pharmacy, and psychiatric pharmacy (the use of drugs to treat mental disorders). A pharmacist may also work with pharmaceutical manufacturers to develop new drugs and test their effects. A pharmacist may work in marketing or sales, providing clients with expertise on the use, effectiveness, and possible side effects of drugs. A pharmacist can also work for health insurance companies, developing pharmacy benefit packages and carrying out cost-benefit analyses on certain drugs.
A pharmacist job requires a BS degree in pharmacy. A pharmacist should have four to five years of pharmaceutical experience. A pharmacist should have scientific aptitude, good communication skills, and be detail-oriented. A pharmacist should possess the ability to establish and maintain a variety of records and to create and preserve strong and effective working relationships.
