Medical Administrator Jobs

A medical administrator keeps healthcare offices running efficiently. A medical administrator carries out tasks like monitoring the day-to-day operations of a hospital; coordinating the activities of medical, nursing, and other hospital staff; and managing the budget and overseeing financial operations. A medical administrator performs highly specialized work requiring knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. A medical administrator assists physicians and medical scientists with reports, records simple medical histories, arranges for patients to be hospitalized, and orders supplies. A medical administrator is familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures, and he or she is also highly conversant in medical terminology, medical law and ethics, and labor law. A medical administrator handles business communications and billing and collection procedures for the hospital effectively, develops policies and procedures, and recruits and evaluates hospital staffers. A medical administrator develops and implements personnel policies to support patient care and ensures that the records of patients are maintained and updated on regular basis.
A medical administrator position requires a BS or MS degree and two to three years of experience involving direct supervision of eight or more employees. A medical administrator should have multitasking skills and good communication skills. A medical administrator should be willing to perform on-call duties. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are also required.
