Clinical Chemist Jobs

A clinical chemist uses chemistry to evaluate patients’ health. A clinical chemist researches and develops laboratory procedures that help physicians make quicker, more precise diagnoses and tailored therapies for patients. A clinical chemist works within a hospital setting and is responsible for formulating, identifying, and providing many different types of medications. A clinical chemist deals with prescriptions and controlled substances for a number of different areas including oncology, pediatrics, and cardiology. A clinical chemist evaluates blood, DNA, tissue, and cell samples. A clinical chemist provides individualized responses to customer concerns regarding the specifications or performance of company-supported products. A clinical chemist is also often called upon to answer questions about drugs, including questions about interactions and possible side effects. A clinical chemist documents all customer complaints and inquiries in accordance with company and department procedures and follows up on open complaints.
A clinical chemist job requires a bachelor’s degree in clinical chemistry or clinical biochemistry. A clinical chemist should also have three to four years of related experience, preferably in a regulated environment. A clinical chemist should have general knowledge of clinical and laboratory science consistent with board certification. A clinical chemist should have strong analytical, protocol design, and technical writing skills. Good verbal and written communication skills are required. A clinical chemist should likewise have hands-on experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point.
