Analytical Chemist Jobs

An analytical chemist is involved throughout the drug development process; he or she studies the physical or chemical properties of drug substances and formulations, with a view to determining the quality and stability of drug products. An analytical chemist typically uses a diverse range of high-tech methods to investigate the chemical nature of substances. The aim of such work is to identify and understand the given substance and how it behaves under different conditions. An analytical chemist develops analytical methods using multiple techniques. An analytical chemist uses a variety of analytical techniques and instruments such as gas and high performance liquid chromatography, ion chromatography, electrochromatography, and spectroscopy (including infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy methods, amongst others). An analytical chemist reports scientific results and uses a range of relevant software. An analytical chemist also develops new techniques for the analysis of drug products and chemicals. An analytical chemist works collaboratively in cross-functional teams, liaising with customers, staff, and suppliers.
An analytical chemist position requires a BS or MS degree in chemistry or a related life science. An analytical chemist should have at least three to five years of experience in a relevant field. An analytical chemist should have excellent oral and written communication skills, project and time management skills, and the ability to work effectively with large multifunctional teams.
