Physical Chemist Jobs

Physical chemists work in a variety of different industries, but their common goal is to discover, test, and understand the fundamental physical characteristics of a given material, whether solid, liquid, or gas. A physical chemist stresses the importance of applying math and physics knowledge to develop an understanding of the material in question. A physical chemist has broad knowledge of relevant technological developments and chemical detection capabilities supported by laboratory research. A physical chemist provides advice on defining and developing technology objectives and conducts assessments on current state-of-the-art technologies for chemical detection. A physical chemist provides recommendations for research development plans and the integration of technologies into advanced development. A physical chemist assists in determining technology development priorities and conducting technical reviews for clients. A physical chemist performs system effectiveness analyses and studies for technology readiness assessments. A physical chemist determines how to measure these basic material components in terms of the arrangements of atoms and molecules.
A physical chemist job requires an MS degree in physical chemistry and ten years of related experience. A physical chemist should have strong organizational skills including the ability to collect, organize, and track inputs from multiple resources. A physical chemist should have a keen understanding of the physical and chemical properties of small molecules and their interactions with proteins. Excellent writing and presentation skills are also required.
