Computational Chemist Jobs

A computational chemist’s primary responsibility is the application of computational methods to the discovery, optimization, and development of drug products. A computational chemist partners with other chemists to assist in the design and prioritization of synthetic targets, identifies gaps in current approaches, and devises innovative solutions to resolve issues. A computational chemist develops and implements a high throughput virtual screening capability as well as applies modern molecular modeling and simulation techniques to discover new potential drug candidates. A computational chemist independently plans, designs, and executes experiments, leading small multidisciplinary teams to achieve programmatic goals. A computational chemist develops new research activities relevant to the needs of laboratory programs and external funding agencies, writes proposals, secures funding, and establishes independent research projects. A computational chemist communicates progress by means of publications, presentations, and internal reports. A computational chemist interacts with senior project staff and management to influence programmatic decisions. A computational chemist conducts all activities in compliance with laboratory safety and security practices.
